André Diederichs

André is a well-known business expert, public speaker, author and media personality. He has traveled through the world in his quest to understand the challenges facing entrepreneurs, leaders, marketers and family owned businesses and the best practices to deal with those challenges.

His core business, ANDRÉ DIEDERICHS & ASSOCIATES, focuses on BUSINESS & MARKETING STRATEGIES and dealing with CHALLENGES FACING FAMILY OWNED BUSINESSES, such as GOVERNANCE STRUCTURES,  SUCCESSION PLANNING  AND INTER-GENERATIONAL challenges.

He has an extensive background in business and marketing strategies in various economic sectors and, in his previous capacity at Old Mutual, worked on business and marketing strategies with various consulting and marketing agency firms , such as McKinsey’s & Company, Gemini, Boston Consulting, and Heroes.

He has published eight books and more than 1200 articles in newspapers and business magazines on important business, financial and leadership lessons. His latest book, BEMARK of BEVARK jy, was published in 2014 and was listed by SAKE RAPPORT as one of the 4 best business books for 2014.

He is a regular guest on radio and TV talk shows and appeared on national TV more than 400 times and more than 100 times on radio since 2014. André’s acute sense of business and keen fascination with nature are captured and translated into practical lessons for the business world.

André’s PASSION in LIFE is to enable FAMILY OWNED BUSINESSES to create positive futures for their family and their business. He believes that leadership and values is two sides of the same coin and that ethical values enable family owned businesses to instill harmony in the family and business.

He is the founding member of FABASA and, in the previous dispensation (Association Incorporated under section 21) he was Chief Director of FABASA. He is also a previous member of FFI (Family Firm Institute), an international association for family owned businesses.

Fanie van der Merwe

Fanie has been working on the Boplaas family farming estate in the Koue Bokkeveld for the more than 30  years, first as a farm worker and today as executive director. Boplaas is SA’s oldest family business and has been in the family since 1743. The family’s motto is: Dream Big, dare to fail. Fanie is married to Hannelie and the couple has four sons, the oldest son Carl was elected as the Western Cape young farmer of the year in 2015.

Prof Elmarie Venter

Prof Venter has been a lecturer in the Department of Business Management at UPE/NMMU since 1998 and held the same position at the University of Stellenbosch for the preceding seven years. Her highest qualifications include a DCom degree obtained from UPE in 2003, a research Masters degree in Commerce (MCom – cum laude) at the University of Stellenbosch and an MBA degree (cum laude) at the Ghent-Leuven-Vlerick School of Management in Belgium. Further qualifications include a BCom Hons degree, HDE diploma, and a BCom degree.

Prof Venter’s field of expertise and research is family business management and in particular succession from one generation to the next. Prof Venter also lectures and researches Entrepreneurship, Small Business Management and Marketing Communication Management.

Riana Grobler

in her previous capacity as senior marketing consultant at Old Mutual she managed market co-ordination and planning of brand integrity countrywide. She was also responsible for media exposure countrywide for Old Mutual’s SMME team based in Cape Town.

In addition and as part of her responsibilities she lectured on challenges pertaining to succession planning for family-owned businesses.

In 2009 Riana won the South African Business Women Council’s competition for Business Women of the Year award for the Western Cape in the Corporate Category.

She is now the Regional Marketing Manager for Old Mutual Personal Financial Advice in Bloemfontein (Free State & surrounding provinces)

Leon Diederichs

Leon Diederichs is co-owner of a family owned business where he delivers human resource development services to a number of family owned agri-businesses as a family business consultant. His human resource development experience and entrepreneurial spirit has led to the development of the ELI Group as a trusted value chain for emerging and commercial agricultural enterprises in South Africa and Namibia. He holds a degree in social sciences and is a registered human resource practitioner in the specialist category for training & development with the South African Board for Personal Practice. Through the fully accredited College of Sustainable Agriculture (CSA), a division of the ELI Group, Leon Diederichs manages a team of specialists, who constantly designing reviewing and updating agricultural related skills programs and learnerships.
